Recommended Resources on Jesus

In addition to the free copy of “The Passion of Jesus” by J. Gresham Machen, feel free to pick up a free copy of any of the following books after the service:

The Case for Christ: A Journalist’s Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus by

Lee Strobel. A New York Times Bestseller, written by a former atheist (and former editor of the Chicago Tribune), this book is a collection of interviews of a dozen experts on who Jesus is and whether he actually rose from the grave.

He Chose the Nails: What God Did To Win Your Heart by Max Lucado. Beautifully written and emotionally engaging, this book focuses on why Jesus died on the cross and what it means for us

Original Jesus: What He Did and Why It Really Matters by Carl Laferton. A concise, brief but helpful book that explains why the original Jesus really matters to you – how his life can transform your world, your hopes, and your future.

Jesus: Who is This Man who Says He’s God? A helpful book for non-Christians/seekers and Christians alike. This brief book examines who Jesus is and the importance of His death and resurrection in the Christian faith.

We are glad that you have joined us this morning as we begin the new year worshipping Jesus together and being reminded of who He is!

If this is your first time here, please fill out one of the cards in the pew and give the card on to any of our users if you would like us to contact you with more information about our church.

Background on Holy Week

Last Sunday marked the beginning of Holy Week (sometimes referred to as“Passion Week”), the week before Easter Sunday.

Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday which commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem (cf. John 12:12-13).

Maundy (Holy) Thursday commemorates the Last Supper when Jesus establishes Communion with His disciples (Luke 22:14-23).

Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus (Matthew 27:32-56) followed by Easter Sunday where the resurrection of Jesus (Matthew 28:1-10) is celebrated.

Please go to: http://bit.ly/2o8g85L for a free downloadable Holy Week devotional by John Piper. This is a brief but helpful daily devotional to remind and encourage us about the significance of this week in leading us to the greater worship of Jesus!

New City Catechism (from www.newcitycatechism.com/intro.php)

We hope that this will be a tool for us to use in disciplining our children, one another and ourselves as a church community.  The New City Catechism is also available online & for your smartphones.

Question 26: What else does Christ’s death redeem?

Answer: Christ’s death is the beginning of the redemption and renewal of every part of fallen creation, as he powerfully directs all things for his own glory and creation’s good.
