Sermon Notes

“….For God’s Glory”

We Exist for God’s Glory (cf. Revelation 4:11, Matthew 5:16, 1 Corinthians 10:31, Romans 15:7, 1 Peter 4:11, Philippians 1:11)

Everything we do – even our growth as a Christian is for God’s glory!

Westminster (Baptist) Catechism Q1(2): What is the chief end of man?

A: Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever

How Do We Glorify (Worship) God?

“Worship” = To value(honor) God above all things

We Deny God’s Glory When We Sin (Idolatry)

Cf. Joshua 7:19, Romans 3:23, Revelation 16:9

We Glorify (Worship) God by Loving Him & Others

Cf. Matthew 22:37-40, 28:18-20, 1 John 5:3

We Love God (and others) with our Head (Attitudes) = Thinking, Heart (Affections) = Feelings, and Hands (Actions) = Doing

The Gospel Fuels Our Worship of God

  1. 1 Timothy 1:15-17, Philippians 2:11, Ephesians 4:21

We remember Who God is and What God Has Done – most evidently through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection for our sins on the cross

Reflection & Application:

What motivates you (i.e. your purpose) in life?

What are some of the “idols” in our lives which we give glory to (worship) instead of God?

How does this morning’s sermon encourage and remind you to live for God’s glory?

How might keeping the Gospel in mind fuel your worship of God this week?

What are 1-2 changes you need to make in your life to better live for God’s glory?  Begin praying for these changes in your life –as well as ask one other person to pray for you.

Lord, may we be people that exist for Your glory in every aspect of our lives as we remember your glory, grace and love for us through Christ Jesus!
