Last Week’s Sermon Notes

“Jesus in the Old Testament” (Luke 24:25-27, 44-48)

  1. The Entire Bible is About Jesus and the Gospel (Luke 24:25-27, 44-48; Acts 17:2)
  • The Gospel Story of Creation, Fall of Man (Sin), Redemption (Rescue) and Restoration.
  • Direct Prophecy of Jesus (Luke 4:17-21, Micah 5:2)
  • Indirect Typological Prophecy of Jesus (Exodus 12:1-3, Numbers 21:4-9): These are not direct prophecies about Jesus but rather foreshadow or allusions to Jesus.
  1. The Old Testament Points to Coming Christ (Jesus)
  • The Coming Christ as King (Genesis 49:8-12, Luke 23:3, Revelation 19:16): Who do we follow?
  • The Coming Christ as Prophet (Deuteronomy 18:15-22, Acts 3:22-26): Who do we listen to?
  • The Coming Christ as Priest (Leviticus 16:29-34, Hebrews 4:14-16): Who do we turn to?
  • The Coming Christ’s Ultimate Victory Over Sin & Death (Genesis 3:14-15, Hebrews 2:14-18)

Reflection & Application:

  • As we look at God’s mysterious plan and sovereignty over history, let’s marvel and praise God for His covenant faithfulness to His people!
  • How does knowing and remembering Jesus as our King/Prophet/Priest and His ultimate victory over our sin and death help you during this season of life you are in? How can Jesus be good news for your friends/family/coworkers during this season?

Lord, during this Advent season, help us to be reminded of Your faithfulness in keeping Your promises to us through Jesus and help us to honor You as our King, Prophet and Priest as we wait Your return!
