Last Week’s Sermon Notes

“The Name of Jesus” (Matthew 1:18-25)

Jesus is Christ (vv.18-20, 24-25)

Christ means “The Anointed One.”

Jesus is the Son of David – The King and The Messiah that we’ve been waiting for.

Jesus is Salvation (v.21)

The name of Jesus is the name of Salvation

The greatest gift in life is an undeserved gift

Jesus is Immanuel (vv.22-23)

God expresses his Immanuel through the incarnation (God becoming human flesh)

God saves us through the Incarnation

Jesus, the God of Immanuel is what makes Christianity distinct from other religions

We are glad that you have joined us this morning as we begin the new year worshipping Jesus together and being reminded of who He is!

If this is your first time here, please fill out one of the cards in the pew and give the card on to any of our ushers if you would like us to contact you with more information about our church.

  2. Pray for Daniel Chen as he plans to move to Los Angeles the end of May to be closer with Sachi and his family. Pray also for Daniel as he figures out future ministry/calling.
  3. Praise God for Elder Stan Yang’s faithful leadership and service through the past four years and pray that his year-long sabbatical in 2017 will be a time of renewal and refreshment. Pray for Elder Raymond Hung as he serves a more active role in the English ministry in 2017.
  4. Pray for Tri-Valley Chinese Bible Church in Pleasanton, CA. Pray for their English/youth ministry as they have been without a pastor for over a year.  Pray for Phebe Kuo as she and other parents help lead and guide the English/youth ministry during this season.  Pray for the provision of a pastor as well as for their church’s continual spiritual growth.

New City Catechism (from www.newcitycatechism.com/intro.php)

We hope that this will be a tool for us to use in disciplining our children, one another and ourselves as a church community.  The New City Catechism is also available online & for your smart phones.

Question 12: What does God require in the ninth and tenth commandments?

Answer: That we do not lie or deceive, but speak the truth in love.  That we are content, not envying anyone or resenting what God has given them or us.
