Prayer Requests & Praises

  1. Pray for Bay Gospel Church (Downtown Campbell) led by Pastor Daniel Uhm. Pray that they would live out their mission of making disciples in humility as they consider others greater than themselves and in being a gospel witness in the Bay Area. Praise God that He has brought quite a bit of young adults to their church. Pray for wisdom and balance for the older members in having a heart to disciple the younger members.
  2. Praise God for the Winter Youth Retreat with Mountain View Chinese Christian Church (MVCCC) and Canaan Taiwanese Christian Church (CTCC) last weekend. Pray for continued reflection and application for the students!
  3. Pray that God would bring the right pastoral candidates as our church officially begins a pastoral search for either a youth minister or associate pastor for our English ministry.
  4. Pray for our English Ministry as we seek to establish an English ministry deacon board. Pray for wisdom and discernment during this process.

Recommended Resources on the Book of Daniel

The following are some of the commentaries consulted in preaching through the book of Daniel:

Daniel (Reformed Expository Commentary) by Iain M. Duiguid

  • This commentary strikes a good balance between interpreting the text (exegesis) and applying the text (application). If you can only refer to one commentary on Daniel, use this one!

Daniel (NIV Application Commentary) by Tremper Longman

  • Similar to Duiguid’s Daniel, this is also a good balanced commentary for general readers.

Daniel (Word Biblical Commentary) by Jay Goldingay

  • Probably the best technical (in-depth) scholarly commentary on Daniel which not only gets into the original languages (Hebrew & Aramaic) of Daniel but also interacts with other scholarly works and interpretations of Daniel.

Preaching Christ from Daniel by Sidney Greidanus

  • Less a commentary but more a guide for pastor/teachers to see and teach Christ in the book of Daniel.

Daniel (Geneva Series of Commentaries)  by E.J. Young

  • An older but just as useful more technical commentary on Daniel. This is a good companion commentary to Goldingay’s.

New City Catechism (from www.newcitycatechism.com/intro.php)

We hope that this will be a tool for us to use in discipling our children, one another and ourselves as a church community.  The New City Catechism is also available online & for your smart phones.

Question 19: Is there any way to escape punishment and be brought back into God’s favor?

Answer: Yes, to satisfy his justice, God himself, out of mere mercy, reconciles us to himself and delivers us from sin and from the punishment for sin, by a Redeemer.

Passage(s): Isaiah 53:10-11
