Sermon Notes

“A Beginning & An End: Be Strong & Courageous” Joshua 1:1-9 (Deuteronomy 31:1-8)

Deuteronomy 31:1-8 Indirect Communication: God speaking through Moses to communicate His (God’s) message to Joshua & the Israelites

Questions to Consider:

How can hearing stories or ways in which God showed His faithfulness & goodness in the lives of others encourage me in my life & walk of faith?

Who are the people in my life whom I can ask to share with me stories or ways of God’s grace to them?

Will I do this?  Will I ask or seek them out?  When?

In contrast

Joshua 1:1-9 Direct Communication: God speaking directly to Joshua to communicate His message to Joshua

Questions to Consider:

How can having experienced or seen God’s faithfulness firsthand in the past, encourage me in present or future circumstances & challenges?

How to be strong & Courageous:

Joshua 1:7-8

1:7 Do not stray or depart from God’s Word

1:8a Absorb or soak in God’s Word

1:8b Live out & obey all of God’s Word

Questions to Consider:

How and in what way(s) do I need to keep from straying from, soak in, and/or live out God’s Word?

How can my community of faith or the body of Christ help me in this?  How I can help someone(s) else?
